Verizon is getting ready to shut down its Message+ app they preloaded on the Android devices they sold. In lieu of this, users will be ported over to Google Messages, the standard messaging app for Android devices.
The announcement, made in early October, scheduled the app shutdown for November 7. But as spotted by Droid-Life, the shutdown date will be extended to December 9, 2024.
Once the app has been shut down, users will no longer be able to receive or send messages on Message+. Any messages scheduled to be sent after the app’s discontinuation date will not be sent.
There’s no mention on why Verizon decided to extend the app’s shutdown date. But this is good news for users who have been used to using Message+ for a long time.
