The original company was founded in 1882, and it was known as the Bell Telephone Company. This company was founded by Alexander Graham Bell. However, it didn't become AT&T until 1983.
The company developed a number of subsidiaries as it evolved. These subsidiaries were referred to as bell companies, and AT&T became the parent company. AT&T and its bell companies dominated the telecommunications industry during most of the 1900s.
The company has its headquarters in Dallas, Texas. They offer both cell phone service and landlines. AT&T also offers internet service and cable television.
It is quite a large company, and it has 273,000 employees. It's considered to be one of the "big four" cell carriers in the United States, and the company has a massive customer base. In addition to having numerous customers located in the United States, there also are many AT&T customers located in Mexico. In total, there are more than 147 million customers.
The network covers much of the country, and it is one of the largest mobile networks in the country. In fact, it is rated second on tests of coverage.
The network also is designed to run exceptionally fast. The network implements 4G technology. However, it is a mixture of both 3G and 4G. It also includes both HSPA+ and LTE in a dual layer system. Enhanced backhaul is included to ensure that the network runs as fast as possible.
Not only is AT&T itself one of the biggest cell providers in the world, but AT&T currently owns another cell provider. This company is called Cricket wireless. In addition, the AT&T network is used by a number of smaller cell phone providers. This makes it possible to get the reliability of the AT&T network at a lower cost.
In addition to including both HSPA+ and LTE, it is a GSM network. This makes it a similar network to T-Mobile.
Unlike some other providers, it is possible to use 2G devices with it. The 2G network is 850 MHZ. The 2G network uses EDGE and GPRS. As with the rest of the network, the 2G network is GSM.
The 3G aspect of the network includes UMTS and HSPA, and it is both 850 MHZ and 1900 MHZ. The 4G network is exclusively LTE, and it runs exclusively at 1700 MHZ. The 4G network uses bands 2, 4, 5, and 17.
