HTC has unveiled its latest smartphone today. The new smartphone, called the Exodus 1, is a device that gives a new meaning to security. HTC has included a secure wallet that is “protected from Android OS”. By adding this whole new level to security, HTC has kept the phone secure enough to hold cryptocurrency.
When HTC announced the Exodus 1 in May, they promised a device intended for bitcoin trading and one where users can own their identity. But it looks like none of those things are already available on the new smartphone. Despite this, HTC has been able to create a separate section on the phone for added security.
Another important feature available on the Exodus 1 is a social key recovery mechanism. If ever you device gets lost or stolen, there is a way to recover the information. This also works when you misplace your key information. HTC has made it in a way where you pick out your trusted friends and have them download a key management app. When necessary, HTC will send info to these trusted friends using a secret sharing algorithm. Together, the info can be pieced together to get the needed info.
In addition to its focus on security, HTC has included some pretty stunning specs on the Exodus 1. For starters, it bears a 6-inch HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. From within, the phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The phone includes dual rear-facing 16-megapixel and 12-megapixel cameras with 4K video recording. In front, there is an 8-megapixel dual front-facing camera configuration as well. Other notable features include a 3500mAh battery and IP68 water and dust-resistance rating.
But here’s the catch: the Exodus 1 will be sold in Bitcoins or Ethereum currency. Its price right now is 0.15 BTC or 4.78 ETH, which is around $960. The device is currently available as an “early access” device so if you have some cryptocurrency lying around, you can purchase the device. It will then be shipped in December in 34 confirmed countries and regions, including the US.
