Robocalls are no fun. Nobody enjoys receiving these calls because they are almost always from scammers. Thankfully, a number of U.S. carriers and state attorneys general are working together to combat these calls.
Earlier this week, a total of 12 U.S. carriers and 51 state attorneys general announced their collaboration in fighting robocalls together. The list of carriers include AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, Bandwidth, Charter, CenturyLink, U.S. Cellular, Comcast, Frontier, Windstream, and Consolidated.
This initiative also includes the launch of a robocall blocking technology by U.S. carriers, which is known as SHAKEN/STIR. The good news is that this does not cost anything to customers. Carriers have promised to offer this for free, complete with easy-to-use call blocking tools and to continually monitor robocall traffic in their networks.
The initiative allows carriers to work with state AGs and law enforcement in order to investigate suspicious callers. As a result, the origins of these illegal robocalls can be traced and put a stop to.
Hopefully, the collaboration between the carriers and state AGs become a fruitful one that will put an end to robocalls. But even if it doesn’t do that completely, it still is good to see them working hard at protecting their consumers.
