Kyocera has just unveiled its newest smartphone-- a mid-range 5G device that sports the usual durability capabilities that the manufacturer is most famous for. This time, however, the device comes in a pocket-friendly size.
The new device, called Kyocera DuraSport 5G, was unveiled by Kyocera and Verizon. The DuraSport 5G comes with IP68 rating and can be submerged in up to 6.5 feet of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. The device has also received US military rating for drops (5 feet onto concrete), humidity, salt fog, thermal shock, temperature extremes, icing, high altitude, and many more.
Apart from its durability, the DuraSport 5G comes with some notable specs. There is a 6.1-inch full HD+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection that works with wet and gloved fingers. From within, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 processor with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of onboard storage, and up to 1TB memory expansion via a microSD card slot.
There are two cameras on the back, a 48-megapixel main sensor and a 16-megapixel wide-angle camera; both of which are protected by Dragontrail glass. In front, there is an 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. Other features include a 4,500mAh battery with Quick Charge 4 and Qi wireless charging capability, NFC, rear-fingerprint reader, and dual-band Wi-Fi.
As a signature feature, the device comes with a programmable shortcut button on the side for PTT activation. Both mmWave and the C-Band network are supported by the device. Upon release, the device runs Android 11. It also comes with Google’s certified Android Enterprise Recommended seal.
The Kyocera DuraSport 5G is now available at Verizon for $580.
