Apple has a habit of unveiling its new iPhone sometime in the third quarter of the year. As anticipation for the iPhone 16 launch grows, many fell victim to what turned out to be a fake Apple event invite.
Yesterday, details of a supposed invite leak for Apple’s much-awaited September event circulated online. The invite was first shared by leaker, Majin Bu, on X. The invite showed an Apple logo with a bronze hue that echoed the rumored new color that will be available for the iPhone 16 Pro. The leaked invite also showed a tagline that read “Ready. Set. Capture” with details on a supposed schedule for the release.
But as confirmed in a new tweet, it turned out that this invite was a hoax. The X user created the leak using Figma and an AI-generated texture in less than 10 minutes. Out of boredom, they sent the invite to Majin Bu and even convinced him that the leaked invite was real.
Don’t worry, no one got in trouble for this. But it’s a good reminder not to get our hopes up right away. It’s also a reminder that such incidents may be used as a phishing or scam attempt.
For now, Apple has not yet announced when they will be launching the iPhone 16 devices. Industry insiders are guessing that this could take place on September 10. But we’ll have to wait for an official announcement from Apple this time around.
