Sony Mobile recently launched the Xperia M2 Aqua, the first Sony mid-range price smartphone to feature the company's widely acclaimed mobile waterproofing technology. Sony may have its work cut out for it in trying to compete with Samsung's, HTC's, and LG's handsets, but when it comes to waterproofing smartphones, the Japan-based company may be king, or at least the industry leader.
The Xperia M2 Aqua already features Sony Mobile's signature OmniBalance design and even boasts an 8-megapixel camera. But in terms of waterproofing, this new smartphone may have broken new ground.
With a rating of IP65/68, the Xperia M2 Aqua currently has the highest waterproof rating of any existing smartphone. The test was conducted by Strategy Analytics, an independent global firm that specializes in market analysis.
Apart from the smartphone's groundbreaking waterproof design, the Xperia M2 Aqua also has other qualities worth checking out. For one, it features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with quad-core 1.2 GigaHertz central processing units. Furthermore, it's 4G LTE-capable, which means users of the phone can handle large files, stream movies, support games, and capture images with relative ease.
Users will be excited to know that its 2300 mAh battery has the distinction of having the highest capacity of any handset in its class. If they want their Xperia M2 Aqua to last even longer, they can switch on the phone's Battery STAMINA mode.
Snap-happy buyers will no doubt find the Xperia M2 Aqua's photo capturing capabilities interesting. The phone combines an 8-megapixel camera with technologies such as the Exmor RS for mobile image sensor, HDR imaging SteadyShot for taking videos, Xperia camera apps, and a specially dedicated camera button that allows users to take pictures, rain or shine, above or below water.
The 4.8-inch qHD display is also not bad. The high-level quality of the IPS display allows for clear and unaffected viewing from any angle. This should come in handy considering that the Xperia M2 Aqua comes pre-loaded with the latest Walkman and Movies apps, providing users with quick access to music, movies and other multimedia via Sony's Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited. As for music lovers, they can enjoy listening to music with the Stereo Bluetooth Headset SBH 20, or go plugged in with the STH30 headset.
According to Sony Mobile's official blog, the Xperia M2 Aqua will be available in black or white colors. This new smartphone is expected to roll out from Autumn 2014. The likely markets will be Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America.
