The mobile phone industry is saying goodbye to one of the pioneers in this space. Kyocera recently announced that it will no longer be manufacturing consumer mobile phones.
In an announcement, the company made the devastating news and shared that they have incurred a loss amounting to JPY 2.27 billion (approximately $16.6 million). Despite this loss, Kyocera continued to manufacture smartphones for at least three more months.
In its announcement, Kyocera President Hideo Tanimoto revealed the decision to shut down its consumer mobile phone business was because they could “no longer find marketability for the general market.”
It’s important to note that Kyocera will continue to cater to its corporate clients.
Kyocera is one of the oldest mobile phone manufacturers in the world. They have been making such devices since 1989.
