Apple has officially announced its newest iPhone models -- the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. For those looking to purchase any one of the devices as soon as possible, know that they will be made available on September 16th, which is just less than a fortnight away. Apple will be offering the iPhone 7 starting at $649 for the 32 gigabyte edition, while the iPhone 7 Plus will be offered starting at $769 for the 32 gigabyte edition.
So what exactly do the latest iPhones offer? Basically some of the same old things, but there are several new features and functionalities that should get diehard Apple fans excited again. For instance, Apple has decided to make some changes to the storage configurations. Indeed, storage for the new iPhone 7 models now start at 32 gigabytes and increase to 128 gigabytes and 256 gigabytes, essentially doing away with the 16 gigabyte and 64 gigabyte editions, as seen in last year’s iPhone 6s variants.
Some iOS mobile users will also be delighted to hear that Apple this time has given its newest iPhone offerings some water and dust resistant capabilities. Both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus come with an IP67 rating, which means that they should be more durable than previous iPhone models.
Other new features to watch out for are stereo speakers now being fitted on the devices’ top section as well as on the bottom part of the handsets. The Home button also has touch sensitive capabilities, and there is a new Taptic Engine feature that produces a vibrating effect whenever users interact with it.
For those hoping that the standard 3.5 millimeter headphone jack will still be there -- alas, Apple has decided to do away with it for good. This means that from now on, all wired audio accessories must connect via the lightning connector (charging port). To help with things, Apple has put in a lightning to analog adapter, plus new Apple EarPods that will take full advantage of the lightning port.
Apple has always reserved its best camera specs for the Plus model, and the iPhone 7 Plus is no exception to this. Whereas the iPhone 7 sports a 12 megapixel camera on the rear side and a 7 megapixel camera on the front side, the bigger iPhone 7 Plus features a couple of lenses side by side -- one a wide angle lens and the other a separate telephoto lens.
With regards to color options, the iPhone 7 models are offered in standard black, silver, gold, rose gold, and a new jet black color option. The jet black finish is still made from aluminum material but is rendered in a way that makes it look reflective (akin to glass).
