HTC may not have introduced a new flagship device during the recently concluded Mobile World Congress held in the city of Barcelona in Spain, but it has taken the opportunity to officially start welcoming preorders for the HTC Vive virtual reality (VR) headset. The Taiwanese mobile manufacturer is offering its Vive VR headset as a $799 bundle, which includes the headset itself, as well as a couple of wand controllers, a pair of room scale movement sensors, and a number of VR titles.
For those planning to avail of the bundle, know that the VR titles include three. The first one is Fantastic Contraption, which is basically a dreamlike interactive game that allows users to create unique structures in order to reach specific coordinates on a map. The second is Job Simulator, which will also be made available on other VR products, including the Oculus Rift and Sony’s PlayStation VR. Job Simulator imagines a world in which all jobs have been taken by robots, so users now use the Job Simulator to experience what it is like to actually perform a specific job (in an office, a kitchen, or a convenience store). The third is Tilt Brush from Google. This one is for the artists out there who want paint artworks using light on a canvas made of three dimensional space.
In order to maximize availability to all interested parties, HTC has decided to limit the bundle to a single one for each buyer, which means that for those who want to get a spare bundle, they are in for some bad news. HTC is targeting to ship all preordered Vive VR headset bundles by April 5th of this year.
It should be noted that regarding delivery, transacting parties may have to pay an additional amount of money. As explained by HTC, payments completed via credit cards will have a hold placed on the card during the ordering process. However, for PayPal transactions, they will be charged in full at the time of preorder.
For those who are looking to owing HTC’s Vive VR headset, they should be reminded that in order to use the device, they will need to have a capable PC. With its Oculus Rift, Oculus lets people grab a virtual reality ready rig together with its VR headset. As for HTC, it can only suggest that customers have a PC that is equipped with an Intel i5 4590 / AMD FX 8350 (or better, has at least an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or an AMD Radeon R9 graphics and 4 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM).
