Over at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, HMD teased its audience with what it was working on. Although the smartphone manufacturer did not bring any new devices, it gave a peek into four devices via a pixelized image.
One of those devices was the highlight of their presentation at MWC 2024, which was revealed to be HMD’s partnership with Mattel. It turns out that they are working on a Barbie-themed flip phone, which they plan to release in July 2024.
As of this writing, we don’t know much about this mystery device except that HMD refers to it as a “retro feature phone.” We also know that there will be two other HMD-branded devices that will be released in July 2024.
Another announcement that HMD made today is that they are slowly moving away from the Nokia brand. But it looks like the separation between the two brands will not be happening right away since there is at least one more Nokia phone slated for release in May 2024.
In its announcement, HMD also revealed that they are preparing their devices for easy repair at home. By summer, the company will substantially reduce the number of steps necessary to fix a broken screen thanks to its “FIY” (Fix it Yourself) movement.
