There was a time when Nokia was the hottest phone brand in the world. Unfortunately, its reign was taken over in the advent of the smartphone. Ever since then, HMD Global has continued to come up with new smartphone devices to keep up with the times.
Recently, the Finnish company revealed its plan to launch its own line of devices. The announcement was made by the company’s CEO, Jean-Francois Baril via Linkedin. Baril said that they will be expanding their portfolio with a new HMD brand. They intend this brand to co-exist with Nokia phones. Unfortunately, they have not disclosed the name of this new brand.
“It has been a great journey as ‘HMD – the home of Nokia phones’ – an exclusive position we have held for the past six years. Now we are ready for the next step on our journey - to enter the market independently as a force to create a new world for telecommunications focused on consumer needs.”
We’ll have to wait for further announcements on what this new brand will focus on as well as what its name will be.
