Recently, Dish made headlines when it announced it would be reuniting with its former company, EchoStar. This is their way of consolidating their finances so they can make the most out of its plans to become the fourth major wireless carrier in the country. After all, it looks like Dish has an upcoming deadline for purchasing low-band 800MHz spectrum from T-Mobile.
This is all part of the agreement Dish entered when it purchased Boost Mobile. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) allowed T-Mo to purchase Sprint, thanks to Dish’s commitment. And in line with this, T-Mobile gave Dish an option to purchase this spectrum for $3.59 billion. But as T-Mobile CEO, Mike Sievert, revealed in the company’s recently concluded Q2 conference call, Dish’s deadline for this purchase is tomorrow, August 11th.
This deadline is a bit confusing since Dish’s recent 10-Q SEC filing mentioned a deadline of August 30th (via Fierce Wireless). Dish Chairman, Charlie Ergen, revealed that there was no real deadline discussed since they had the option to continue with negotiations after the month ends.
"I think as long as the parties are negotiating, I think things will remain open. I can only say there are negotiations going on at the highest levels between the companies and neither company has come to a resolution on that."
Hopefully, its recent plans with EchoStar will help Dish gain the finances it needs to continue with the negotiations.
