Dish Network has big plans for its future. Earlier today, the company revealed its plans to merge operations with another satellite internet company, EchoStar. The merger will give Dish more financial flexibility as it works to become a major player in the wireless industry.
Once the merger takes place, EchoStar’s CEO Hamid Akhavan will become the new president and CEO. Meanwhile, Erik Carlson, Dish’s current CEO, will be making his exit.
This merger reunites the two companies once again. This is because the two were originally under the same EchoStar brand until the company split its satellite internet branch in 2008 and renamed it to Dish.
With the merger in place, Dish hopes to become the fourth major mobile provider in the country. While the merger won’t improve the network of Dish right away, the expanded resources might just push it to that level.
