Apple has officially just released the newest version of watchOS 2. The latest iteration of the iPhone maker’s operating system for its smartwatches has now been made available for downloading for users out there via an over the air update. Apple users who are not seeing the update right now may need only exercise a little patience -- Apple may be using a queue system to ensure quick and fast downloading of the update for everyone.
At first, Apple had planned to launch watchOS 2 back in September 16th of this year. But the tech giant had to postpone the release at the last minute because of the discovery of an unexpected bug. As explained by the company, it took them some time to fix the bug, which resulted to a delay in the launching of the software.
But now that the bug has been fixed, Apple users should now be able to start experiencing what the newest version of watchOS 2 is all about. For sure, they can expect a number of cool features and enhancements. For app developers, they can now fashion native apps and even take full advantage of all the sensors present in watchOS 2. Other features of the newly launched watchOS 2 include directions for users taking public transit, improved support for Apple’s personal digital assistant Siri, new additional watch faces, third party complications, a nifty night stand mode, future time weather checks, appointments, and lots more.
Apps that now take advantage of the latest version of watchOS include CNN, Facebook Messenger, GoPro, and iTranslate, just to name a few. To update to watchOS 2, users just need to launch the Watch app on their iPhone devices, head to “General” and then to “Software Update.” Once there, Apple should then prompt users to start the update process.
With the release of watchOS 2, mobile users can finally begin to understand Apple’s overall vision for the Apple Watch. When the company first launched its one and only smartwatch (to date), Apple had not fully polished the software side of things yet, which essentially meant that functionality wise, its wearable device was sort of in beta yet.
But now that watchOS 2 is out, users should now be able to experience the Apple Watch for what it was truly meant to be. As for app developers, they can now go full steam ahead in creating apps optimized for Apple’s smartwatch and seamlessly integrated into watchOS 2’s fabric.
