According to a survey conducted on more than 2,000 mobile users, the Apple brand appears to have the coolest wearable devices today. Juniper Research was responsible for conducting the poll, taking a total of 21 brands (namely Apple, Samsung, Google, LG, Sony, Nike, Rolex, UnderArmour, TAG Heuer, Ralph Lauren, G-Shock, Chanel, Microsoft, Motorola, Adidas, Omega, Breitling, Huawei, Garmin, Pebble, and Xiaomi) and gathering users’ opinions about them.
Juniper Research’s survey revealed that most mobile consumers of today generally lean towards Apple or Samsung when it comes to wearable devices, especially smartwatches. The data collected by the research firm certainly shows that over 75 percent of those surveyed gave a thumbs up to either one of the two tech giants.
But with regards to the coolest smartwatch according to mobile users, the honor goes to the Apple Watch, at least based on Juniper Research’s findings. There may be some truth to this, although it should be noted that to date, it is still difficult to objectively quantify how popular Apple’s smartwatch has become considering that the iPhone maker has never yet disclosed official sales figures for its one and only wearable device so far.
Still, that has not stopped various industry watchers from providing estimates. IDC, another research firm, thinks there are already 3.6 million units of Apple Watches shipped around the world during the second quarter of this year, second only to Fitbit, which shipped 4.4 million units of wearable devices during the same period.
As for smartwatches in general, these products may have enjoyed increased awareness in the last year (no doubt, helped immensely by the release of the Apple Watch), but it is safe to say that the devices have not quite reached mainstream status yet. One reason for this may be that smartwatches just are not that useful yet to daily living, except maybe for health and fitness purposes.
For Apple, it may have been late to the party (Samsung and Motorola have already introduced smartwatches in the previous years), but it certainly is fast becoming the face of the industry. Also, Juniper Research’s findings seem to suggest that tech companies are favored by consumers (the top coolest wearable device brands are Apple, Samsung, Google, LG, and Sony) over fashion brands (Tag Heuer, Ralph Lauren) and sports brands (Adidas, Garmin). Juniper Research’s survey also showed that iPhone owners are more likely to buy wearable devices in the near future compared to those who own Android smartphones.
